Garden Route Golf Courses
Many golfers that play across the world believe that the Garden Route of South Africa is the Mecca of South African well kept golf courses.
Diaz Beach Haven is located in close proximity to some of South Africa’s best golf courses. These are all a short scenic drive away from our guest house.
Here are some of the courses you can choose from to structure your golf tour.
Pinnacle Point Golf Course – 15 minutes away
Pinnacle Point Golf Course is seen as one one the world’s top 10 new courses and is a course that will challenge your golfing skills!
The Pinnacle Point Golf Course is something truly unique for the discerning golfer. This 18 hole championship golf course was designed by well-known South African golf course architect Peter Matkovich who opened the course together with top Irish Tour Golf Professional Darren Clarke in November 2006.
Darren Clarke, who was also involved with many aspects of the Pinnacle Point course design, has said that Pinnacle Point is “… the best golf course on the planet.” Pinnacle Point was selected as one of the Top Ten New Golf Courses of the World by the American publication Travel & Leisure in January 2007.
This Clifftop Fynbos Golf Course inspires the golfer to play this challenging layout with a level of respect due to its dramatic views and breathtaking terrain. The 72 par layout is characterised by 7 majestic holes that line the Indian Ocean rock cliffs, four of which are played over ocean and cliff. All 18 holes have been designed to fit the contours of the land.
Mossel Bay Golf Course – 10 minutes away
This course is an easy walk and very playable from tee to green for all golfers, even if you have just taken up the game.
The beautiful views of the Indian Ocean and the local Springbuck ( antelope ) roaming on the course might distract you, but they will most definitely leave you with lasting memories.
The Mossel Bay golf course signature hole is the 3rd hole, which is a par 4. At almost 400m, and a stroke two, this can be challenging especially when playing into the sea breeze.
The tee is situated high above the fairway with magnificent views over the estate, and the hole runs downhill towards the green with the Indian Ocean as your backdrop.
Well-placed bunkers on either side of the fairway will catch any errand tee shots.
The green is a large two level undulating green, which makes a guaranteed par 4 on the hole uncertain, should you find the green with your second shot.
George Golf Course – 30 minutes away
The George Golf course is a beautifully manicured, 72 par, 18 hole course, with bent greens, set in the heart of the garden route.
The course rating for men is either 70 (club – 5774m) or 72 (championship – 6100m), while that for the ladies is 72 (5188m).

Clubhouse facilities include change rooms for men and women with showers, a halfway house offering light meals, a bar and a lounge with a verandah, which has a spectacular outlook over the course.
Fancourt Country Club – Bramble Hill – 30 minutes away
Bramble Hill is the fourth course at Fancourt, but it has a character all of its own.
Built in response to a need for an 18-hole facility that would be accessible to the community of George and surrounding areas, Bramble Hill is truly a public golf course in the sense that there are no restrictions on who can play at any given time.
Bramble Hill offers a golf experience that is relaxed and friendly, without any “private country club” intimidation! The course itself is challenging enough to test the most proficient golfer, yet it is sure to be an enjoyable round even for beginners.
Bramble Hill shares six holes with the Fancourt Golf Academy at the moment, but plans are underway to create six new holes adjacent to Bramble Hills 12 holes, which will mean that it will feature its own entire 18-hole layout in the near future. The course shares many characteristics with its highly pedigreed sibling The Links, with undulating fairways, raised greens and a number of treacherous water hazards and can be exposed to the typically fresh Southern Cape winds.
Unique to South African layouts, Bramble Hill has a fun “practice hole” between the 10th and 11th holes, which is a character-filled little par three where golfers are given a respite from the concentration of the round – or it is a place to have a little mid-game wager with your playing partners.
In keeping with Fancourt, Bramble Hill features a modern, facility rich clubhouse, as well as a well-stocked pro shop, with a wide range of competitively priced golf merchandise. On hand to offer expert advice are a number of resident PGA professionals.

Oubaai Country Club – 25 minutes away
Oubaai Golf Club is proud to be the first and only Ernie Els signature course. The golf course design presents a challenge to all levels of golfer and is a testimony to the talents of South Africa’s favorite golfing son.
Oubaai is situated some 7kms from George Airport on the coastline of The Garden Route at Herolds Bay.
Oubaai Golf Club is a Championship Golf Course designed by 3 times Major Championship Winner Ernie Els. Els himself has placed Oubaai as his favorite course in the world.
The Golf Course is a Links layout where veld grasses line the lush fairways and greens. The elements, predominantly the wind, play a role in the defenses of the course; the course being a coastal golf course. However, you will find generous fairways off the tees but in the spirit of the course these are well Oubaai Golf Course bunkered to penalize any stray or ill considered drives.
The greens are in excellent condition and roll smooth and true. They are set up normally to run at 10 on the stint meter but the ability to speed them up is readily available for tournament days.
Oubaai is a course that will reward the well executed shot and penalize any wayward shots in the true time honored tradition of a championship golf course.
The course measures 6516 meters from the Pro tees. This is long for a coastal course, but the design and placement of tee boxes allow all levels of handicap golfer the opportunity to extract a respectable score given patience and good course management.
Knysna Golf Course – 70 minutes away
Along the Garden Route, just 500km from Cape Town and 250km from Port Elizabeth, Knysna is one of the Southern Cape Coast’s best known holiday attractions, situated between lush forests and the shores of the peaceful lagoon. It offers many activities and attractions of a wide variety, the most well known being the fabled “Knysna Heads” – two great sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon which connects the estuary with the sea.
Nestled on the shores of the Knysna Lagoon and close to the looming Heads, the Knysna Golf Club’s 18-hole course meanders through tidal pools and between magnificent indigenous trees.
An interesting parkland layout which has been enhanced over the past ten years, it has some of the best bent grass greens in the Southern Cape. Although flat and easy to walk, the course still provides players of all levels with a good challenge and is an affordable golfing experience not to be missed while touring the area.
The Clubhouse has a warm and inviting atmosphere and visitors are welcome to come and play a round of golf and enjoy the hospitality of our friendly staff and members.

The course offers challenging and rewarding golf amidst spectacular scenery.
Set below the high ridges, it’s free from the wind that so often plagues coastal courses. Fairways flow with the natural undulating contours of the terrain and the unusual configuration of five par 5’s and five par 3’s adds a new dimension to the game. It’s par for the course that every hole boasts exceptional views; either out across the Knysna Lagoon all the way to the Heads or over the picturesque Knysna River as it twists and turns through the valley below.
