Make  DIAZ BEACH HAVEN, MOSSEL BAY  your no1 destination in South Africa and explore the Garden Route and Klein Karoo region - a world renowned scenic and adventure route, catering from the very energetic visitor to the more reserved tourist and definitely has something to offer for every budget. The Garden Route, in particular, is one of the most scenic stretches of land in South Africa – if not in the world.

The Klein Karoo region is located just North of the Garden Route and together offer you South Africa in a nutshell – culture, scenic beauty, wildlife, spectacular beaches, multi-ethnic food and wine, sport, exotic eco systems, extravagant mountain ranges, and much, much more. In sharp contrast to the Garden Route, the Klein Karoo region consists of dry semi-arid scrub land. The Hottentots and Bushmen, last of the South African indigenous peoples, called this region ” Place of the Great Dryness”- from which the name “Karoo” is derived. Well known towns in the Klein Karoo region include Outshoorn and Calitzdorp.

The Garden Route and Klein Karoo are surrounded by a number of mountain ranges, notably the Swartberg to the North and Langeberg, Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma to the South. Countless passes, some 14 of them, lead you over the ridges of these mountains that have peaks of over 2 000 meters above sea level. The Garden Route starts in the west from Mossel Bay and surroundings - up to the Storms River, approximately 200 kilometres to the east.

The most common languages spoken along the Garden Route are Xhosa, Afrikaans and English.  The world’s largest wine route, Route 62,  passes through the Klein Karoo / Garden Route region from the Western Cape wine lands and some of the well known towns on the route are Mossel Bay, George, Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.

A further feature of the Garden Route is that it is often referred to as the golfing mecca of South Africa, with several world class courses. Another very popular attraction is the endless white sandy beaches – 40 kilometres – between Mossel Bay and George alone. Forests with its gigantic trees together with the botanical phenomenon of Fynbos are fairly common in the region and are well accessible, particularly when following the numerous hiking trails.
